The aim was to buy a car for no more than £500 and drive it from Reigate in Surrey to Cannes in the south of France. The total journey was about 850 miles and was undertaken without using motorways. 16 cars and 32 drivers took part, including Iron Maiden front man Bruce Dickinson.
Apart from being a good fun event the main purpose was to raise money for charity. So far nearly £80,000 has been raised for 4 charities: The Children's Trust & Variety which support disadvantaged children, ESDAS, the East Surrey domestic abuse support organisation and RGS Changing Lives, an educational bursary initiative.
