Denis Welch Motorsport made the lengthy trip to Portugal to support a number of cars throughout the Algarve Classic Festival weekend.
RAC Woodcote Trophy
The Austin Healey 100S of Karsten Le Blanc and co-driver Nigel Greensall qualified fastest in class. The race, ending in the dark ran for a full 2 hours. At the end of 49 laps Le Blanc and Greensall would come home as first in class and 9th overall, a superb result against some very quick cars.
GT and Sports Car Cup
The team supported 4 cars in the race, the final round of the 2016 series. The Low Drag Jaguar E-Type of Julian Thomas which started the race on pole, just over a second ahead of the 2nd place car. Julian's race would end prematurely following suspension damage and Jeremy Welch had a challenging drive in his Healey, KVS 484, the race saw better news for 2 very special ex-works Austin Healey 3000's.
767 KNX, the ex works, Sebring 1964 car was driven by Alex Bell and co-driver Jeremy Welch. This was the first time in a number of years that the car has seen competitive action having undergone extensive preparation at the Denis Welch Motorsport workshop. Mr Bell was delighted to race his car for the first time and quickly gained confidence and speed as the laps went by.
Another famous car, the ex Le Mans and John Chatham, DD 300, driven by Karsten Le Blanc and Nigel Greensall put on a super display of fast driving to finish 7th overall and 2nd in the GT3 class. The pairing saw a best lap of 2:14.381, which was comfortably the fastest lap by a Healey.
